The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a ban on the use of tinted vehicles, citing security concerns. Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, made the announcement on Tuesday, December 4, during a briefing in Abuja.
According to Disu, the move aims to curb rising lawlessness associated with tinted vehicles, which often impede visibility and enable criminal activities.
“We are clamping down on all commercial vehicles and individuals tinting their vehicles. We need to see people in their vehicles. Tinted glass is contributing to a lot of lawlessness,” Disu stated.
The police commissioner highlighted instances where tinted vehicles hindered public awareness of kidnappings, as victims were unable to signal for help. He also noted the deliberate concealment of number plates by some vehicle owners, which further complicates law enforcement efforts.
“This is to warn all residents of the FCT that the police will enforce all laws on tinted glasses. Nobody has the right to tint their vehicles. We will enforce the laws,” Disu warned.
The police command has urged compliance from residents and assured strict enforcement of the directive to enhance public safety and curb criminal activities in the FCT.
