FEC Greenlights Road Construction Projects in Abuja Satellite Towns
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved major road construction projects across Abuja’s satellite towns, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced on Monday.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the FEC meeting, Wike stressed that these areas have long suffered neglect, emphasizing that extending infrastructure to satellite towns is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The newly approved projects will cover Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari area councils, with over 75 kilometers of road expected to be commissioned by December. Wike stated, “The President has also said we must continue to give hope and infrastructure to satellite towns.”
Additionally, FEC approved the development of Artillery Road N5, Obafemi Awolowo Way, stretching from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road, to be executed by Julius Berger within 16-17 months.
In response to the President’s directive to enhance judicial infrastructure, 40 quarters for judges and justices will be built in the Kantampe District, with a completion timeline of 15 months. Wike outlined that this project will accommodate FCT High Court, Federal High Court, and Court of Appeal judges.
Other infrastructural projects include access roads from Artillery Road N11 (Mabuchi to Judges Quarters) and from Ring Road 1-N16 Shehu Shagari Way to Judges Quarters, all to be completed within 15 months. FEC also approved full development of connecting roads to the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
Furthermore, Wike announced the termination of the N184 billion Maitama 2 development contract due to the contractor’s non-mobilization, with plans to start a new procurement process to provide necessary infrastructure to reduce the housing deficit in the area.
