The Federal Government has committed to improving healthcare services for Nigerian pilgrims participating in the upcoming 2025 Hajj. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, recently inspected medical facilities operated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the administration’s focus on pilgrim welfare.

During his visit to NAHCON’s Ummul-Jud office, Minister Pate highlighted the necessity of adhering to global health standards, especially in light of recent health concerns such as meningitis outbreaks and the resurgence of polio. He stressed the importance of credible vaccination documentation, including yellow cards, for all Nigerian pilgrims.

Accompanied by senior delegates from the Health Ministry, the minister assessed NAHCON’s ambulance fleet and evaluated the readiness of medical supplies and equipment at Nigerian health clinics in Saudi Arabia. The inspection identified areas for improvement, particularly in increasing the availability of essential medicines, vaccines, and operational ambulances.

NAHCON Chairman and CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, praised the minister’s initiative, stating that his involvement signifies a strong commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery for pilgrims. With approximately 70,000 Nigerians participating annually in the pilgrimage, Minister Pate’s direct engagement represents a significant advancement in governmental oversight and proactive healthcare planning.

Addressing concerns related to climate-induced extreme heat during the upcoming Hajj, the minister pledged to implement measures to safeguard the health and well-being of pilgrims. This collaboration between Nigeria’s Health Ministry and NAHCON aims to ensure that pilgrims receive exceptional medical care during their spiritual journey.
