Federal Government to Close Marine Bridge for 60 Days Repairs

Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, disclosed the plan during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday. She explained that the first section of the bridge, located at the beginning, will be completely shut down for 20 days, a move expected to cause significant traffic disruptions in areas such as Apapa, Ijora, and Iganmu.
“This phase of the repair involves replacing about 50 bearings. To do that, we need to lift the bridge at specific points,” Kesha said. She clarified that the Marine Bridge is often mistaken for the nearby Ijora Bridge, but the work will be focused on the Marine Bridge alone.
The repairs will be done in three phases:
- Phase one: A complete closure of the bridge’s starting point for 20 days.
- Phase two: Traffic will be diverted at the midpoint of the bridge. The two lanes from Iganmu will be merged, allowing traffic to flow on one side for another 20 days.
- Phase three: Work will conclude near the Apapa descent by Area B Police Command, with traffic diversions in place for the final 20 days.
Kesha noted that the most severe congestion is expected during the first phase, which involves a total shutdown of the bridge. To minimize grid
