The Federal Government has approved the inauguration of the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) platform by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) as part of efforts to ensure secure and seamless identity verification and authentication across Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC.
Adegoke noted that the presidency had also directed the adoption of NIN Authentication services by all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for verification purposes, in line with the commission’s mandate to regulate a reliable digital identity system for citizens and legal residents.
He explained that the NINAuth platform comprises a suite of advanced verification services—web, API, and mobile—designed to bolster data security, safeguard privacy, and simplify access to essential government services.
“This is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on strengthening the national identity management system,” Adegoke stated.
“The NIMC NINAuth application is the official service for integration with the commission’s back-end infrastructure. It introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information.”
He added that the platform mandates explicit user consent before personal data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verification needs, fostering trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management.
According to Adegoke, the platform allows individuals to securely verify their identity for key services such as SIM registration and replacement, passport processing, tax filings, financial transactions, government intervention programmes, driver’s licence renewals, and other regulatory procedures.
He highlighted some of the platform’s core benefits, which include enhanced security, protection from unauthorised data access, and user empowerment through data sharing preferences.
“It provides a secure single sign-on solution for convenient access to services,” he said, adding that the innovation reaffirms NIMC’s commitment to efficient and secure digital identity management, and to building a transparent and accessible verification system nationwide.
The NINAuth service, he said, also offers a scalable and interoperable interface for real-time identity verification via API integration. It is intended to promote effective service delivery, facilitate database harmonisation, and ensure compliance with the National Identity Policy.
Adegoke noted that NINAuth has been designated as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based authentication and verification integration processes.
“The implementation guide and process flow of the NIMC NIN Authentication are available at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng,” he added.
