FG Increases Bonuses for Nigeria’s Paralympic Athletes Ahead of Paris 2024

The Federal Government has announced a significant increase in bonuses for Nigeria’s Paralympic athletes participating in the upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The Games, scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 8, will see enhanced financial rewards for medalists, as confirmed in a statement by Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Press at the Ministry of Sports Development.

During an interactive session with the para-athletes at their training camp in Saarbrucken, Germany, Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, revealed the new bonus structure: $15,000 for Gold, $10,000 for Silver, and $5,000 for Bronze.

This marks a significant improvement from the bonuses given at the just-concluded Olympic Games, where Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners received $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000 respectively.

Enoh stated that the increase is a reflection of the Federal Government’s recognition of the athletes’ dedication and commitment to representing Nigeria on the global stage.

He encouraged the athletes to see the enhanced bonuses as motivation to perform at their best, boosting their morale and patriotism.

The minister also urged the team to surpass the performance of Team Nigeria at the recent Olympic Games, expressing hope that their success would lift the nation’s spirits during challenging times. “The country is not in a happy mood, and you are the ones who can bring joy back to Nigeria,” Enoh added.
