FG Injects N80bn into Unity Schools, Launches Digital Platform for Teachers
The Federal Government has earmarked a whopping N80 billion for the upgrade of infrastructure in the country’s 100 Federal Government Colleges, popularly known as Unity Schools.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, revealed this on Friday during an unscheduled inspection visit to Federal Government College, Kano. According to her, the funds will be used to modernise infrastructure and create a more conducive learning environment across the institutions.
Prof. Ahmad explained that the visit was part of the government’s broader initiative to evaluate infrastructure, leadership, student welfare, and the overall teaching and learning environment in Unity Schools.
“The federal government is committed to ensuring quality education and building teachers’ capacity to achieve set objectives,” she stated.
Highlighting the need for stronger collaboration between policymakers and school administrators, the minister said the government was also introducing a digital platform to revolutionise teacher training nationwide.
“The digital platform will enhance teacher capacity and improve the quality of education in Unity Schools. It will also allow teachers to access training and resources irrespective of their location,” she said.
Prof. Ahmad further noted that the interaction with school authorities would help identify challenges and enable targeted interventions to improve service delivery.
She also visited the Federal Government Girls’ College, Kazaure, stressing that the inspection tour was in line with the administration’s agenda to revitalise Unity Schools and ensure a standardised, high-quality educational environment nationwide.
“This investment will provide modern infrastructure and a conducive learning environment for students,” she added.
The Federal Government’s renewed focus on Unity Schools is seen as a strategic step towards restoring their historical legacy as centres of academic excellence and national integration.
