The Federal Government, on Wednesday, presented damning audio and video evidence in open court, featuring broadcasts by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in an effort to prove terrorism-related charges against him.
The recordings, which were admitted as exhibits, were played during the testimony of the second prosecution witness (PW-2), identified only as BBB, before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Testifying behind a screen shielded by court order, BBB confirmed under cross-examination that Kanu had admitted to producing the contentious broadcasts and videos. The witness’s account was led by the prosecution counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.
One of the most striking pieces of evidence was a Radio Biafra broadcast made by Kanu on October 20, 2020, amid the #EndSARS protests. In the audio played to the court, Kanu was heard urging Nigerian youths to launch attacks on police officers and soldiers.
In the clip, the IPOB leader specifically called on protesters to ambush security personnel, seize their firearms, and kill them.
The case continues as the court evaluates the admissibility and weight of the evidence presented.
