FG Unveils Draft Policy to Boost Nigeria’s Global Tourism Leadership
The Federal Ministry of Tourism has unveiled a draft National Tourism Policy aimed at positioning Nigeria as a global tourism leader. Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, made this announcement during a virtual meeting with stakeholders on Saturday in Abuja.
According to the minister, the new policy marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to advance its tourism sector. Developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and key industry stakeholders, the policy aligns Nigeria’s tourism with global standards and sustainable practices.
Ade-John highlighted the transformative potential of the policy, focusing on sustainable tourism, community engagement, and product diversification. These pillars, she explained, are expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
“This draft policy represents our collective commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s tourism sector as a key driver of economic diversification. We are focused on implementing frameworks that promote accountability, support green initiatives, and empower women and youths,” Ade-John stated.
The draft policy covers critical areas such as digital transformation and synergy with other sectors like aviation. It is expected to be finalized by October, with a presentation to the Federal Executive Council set for November. The development process has prioritized inclusivity, ensuring input from all relevant sectors.
The minister emphasized that further consultations and validation will refine the document before implementation, underscoring the ministry’s commitment to continuous stakeholder collaboration.
The meeting was attended by top government officials, private sector representatives, and key industry stakeholders.
