The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up three places to rank 36th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings released in October.
According to the updated rankings published on Thursday by FIFA, Nigeria gained 1503.29 points during the period under review. This improvement follows the team’s 1-0 victory over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Oct. 11 in Uyo.
The Super Eagles’ rise also boosted their continental ranking, now placing fourth in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt, compared to their sixth position in September.
Globally, October has been a busy month in football, with 32 FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, 47 AFCON 2025 qualifiers, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 international friendlies contributing to several changes in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.
At the top, Argentina (1st) continues to lead, but their gap over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has narrowed. England (4th), Brazil (5th), and Belgium (6th) remain in their respective spots. Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) made small gains within the top 10, which is rounded out by the Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1). Germany (11th, up 2) is closing in on the top 10.
Elsewhere, Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5), and Greece (42nd, up 6) also made notable strides. Cameroon (49th, up 4) re-entered the top 50, while African teams like Equatorial Guinea (88th, up 6), Zimbabwe (117th, up 7), The Gambia (128th, up 7), and Botswana (140th, up 7) saw significant progress. Botswana’s Zebras achieved the largest points gain of 38.30, the highest overall.
