Filipino TikTok star Emman Atienza dies at 19 after mental health battle
Filipino TikTok star and social media personality, Emman Atienza, has died at the age of 19 after a battle with mental health issues.
Atienza, the daughter of Filipino television host Kim “Kuya Kim” Atienza and fitness coach Felicia Atienza, was found dead at her Los Angeles home on October 22. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, her death was ruled a suicide.
Her family announced the tragic news in an emotional Instagram post on Friday, October 24, saying, “It’s with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our daughter and sister, Emman. She brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives and into the lives of everyone who knew her.”
The family’s statement also praised Emman’s openness about her struggles, adding, “Emman had a way of making people feel seen and heard, and she wasn’t afraid to share her own journey with mental health. Her authenticity helped so many feel less alone.”
They requested that the public honor her memory by embodying the compassion, courage, and kindness that defined her life.
With over 875,000 followers on TikTok and 225,000 on Instagram, Atienza was admired for her lifestyle content and candid discussions about mental health. Despite her privileged background, she often addressed misconceptions about her family’s wealth and used her platform to advocate for mental wellness and social awareness.
In late 2024, she briefly faced backlash for a viral video showing her and friends dining at an upscale Japanese restaurant, sparking conversations about privilege and accountability. She later apologized and took a break from social media before resuming content creation.
Atienza’s final TikTok, posted just days before her passing, featured joyful moments with friends hiking, rock climbing, and celebrating Halloween.
