Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on corps members to fully embrace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills that would help them become self-reliant and productive citizens.

The governor made the call on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Damare, Yola. He was represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta.

Describing the three-week orientation exercise as a “golden opportunity,” Fintiri urged corps members to use the period to discover their talents and build a foundation for personal and professional development.

“With over a million corps members already empowered through the SAED programme, its impact is remarkable,” he said. “The programme offers valuable skills, start-up capital, and business incentives to help you thrive as entrepreneurs.”

He emphasized the importance of the orientation course, noting that it lays the foundation for the entire service year. The governor encouraged corps members to actively participate in all activities, build friendships across ethnic and religious lines, and embrace the spirit of national unity and cultural diversity.

Fintiri also assured the corps members of their safety throughout their stay in Adamawa, urging them to be security-conscious and to adhere strictly to security guidelines issued by experts during the orientation.

In her remarks, the NYSC Adamawa State Coordinator, Mrs. Osoroh Chinedu, expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his unwavering support to the scheme, particularly in the areas of welfare and infrastructure.

She lauded his recent approval of an increased monthly allowance for corps members from the state to ₦20,000 and his administration’s commitment to constructing a more befitting orientation camp in Damare.

Chinedu also highlighted the role of corps members in the Nigerian Learning Passport (NLP) initiative, which seeks to boost digital literacy among school children across the state. She affirmed the NYSC’s commitment to deepening such partnerships for the overall development of Adamawa.

The state coordinator concluded by urging corps members to uphold the ideals of national service and acquaint themselves with the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as a guide throughout their service year.
