FirstBank Secures Euromoney Award for Excellence in ESG Investments

FirstBank has been honored with the 2024 Euromoney Award for its outstanding contributions to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investments in Nigeria, driven by its innovative financial solutions and initiatives.

In a statement issued on Sunday, FirstBank announced that Euromoney recognized its significant achievements, particularly in implementing an ESG management system that screened N4.2 trillion in new transactions for ESG risks in 2024.

Noteworthy initiatives include a $10 million solar energy project to enhance access to off-grid solar solutions in Africa and Asia through a pay-as-you-go model, supporting Nigeria’s green transition. The bank also invested N16 billion in developing four modular independent power plants for a major beer manufacturer, transitioning from diesel generators to more sustainable energy sources and cutting production costs.

Furthermore, FirstBank launched a tree-planting campaign with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation, planting over 50,000 trees in 2024, highlighting its dedication to ESG principles.

Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, expressed the bank’s pride in receiving the Euromoney Award for Nigeria’s Best Bank in ESG. “This recognition is a testament to the power of enabling giants in our employees, businesses, and communities to achieve success. At FirstBank, we believe that sustainability drives growth and innovation.

“Our sustainability strategy is built on three pillars: Citizenship, Stakeholder Management, and Impact Management. This award validates our efforts to create a sustainable and inclusive future for all our stakeholders, and we are committed to advancing continuous positive impact in the marketplace, workplace, environment, and communities we serve,” she stated.

Euromoney’s “Awards for Excellence” program is a prestigious annual recognition in the global banking industry, honoring banks and bankers who demonstrate exceptional differentiation and excellence.

FirstBank has also recently been recognized as Best SME Bank in Nigeria, Best Bank in Africa, Best Private Bank in Nigeria, and Best Private Bank for Sustainable Investment in Africa by Global Finance, among other accolades.
