The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi has given a two-week ultimatum for relatives to claim 21 unclaimed corpses in its morgue or face disposal actions.
This warning was issued on Tuesday by Miss Esther Bature, Head of Public Relations and Protocol at FMC Keffi, in a statement made available to news outlets. According to Bature, several of the unclaimed bodies have been stored for over six months, surpassing the legally permitted timeframe and creating a potential health risk.
“The prolonged storage of these corpses now poses a health hazard to the hospital and surrounding areas,” Bature explained. “We urge anyone with missing relatives to come forward for identification and collection of the bodies.”
FMC Keffi announced that if the bodies are not claimed by the deadline, which ends two weeks from Nov. 5, it will proceed with the disposal of the corpses in line with health regulations.
