Football Fans Praise Osimhen’s Transfer to Galatasaray

Several football fans have lauded Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, for his move to Galatasaray Football Club in Turkey. In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), fans expressed support for Osimhen’s decision to leave Napoli FC of Italy, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Femi Adefesoon, a sports broadcaster, acknowledged that while the Turkish league is less competitive than Italy’s Serie A, the transfer will allow Osimhen to continue playing active football.

“Galatasaray is a smaller club, and the Turkish league is less competitive compared to Italy, but given the situation in Italy, he made the right call. If he had stayed, he could have been sidelined and forced to train with the junior team. At Galatasaray, he’ll also have the opportunity to compete in the Europa League, which will showcase him to his new team,” Adefesoon said.

Kelechi Bernard, a sports journalist, said the deadline-day transfer came at the perfect time, as Osimhen was dealing with a toxic atmosphere at Napoli.

“It seemed like Napoli no longer wanted him, especially with the way they handled negotiations with clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Napoli was asking for too much, particularly when trying to sell him to Saudi Arabia. Osimhen made the right choice to stay active in European football,” Bernard said.

Emefieh Nkem, an avid Osimhen fan, noted that the striker’s social media following has surged since the transfer.

“His Instagram followers have jumped by 100,000, reaching 4.4 million after he joined Galatasaray. He’s set to return to playing in the Europa League after being sidelined at Napoli by their new coach, Antonio Conte. Staying at Napoli for the 2024/2025 season would have been a nightmare for the current African Player of the Year,” Nkem added.

NAN reports that Osimhen received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Turkey, where Galatasaray finalized his transfer just before the deadline. Neither Chelsea nor Saudi Pro League clubs were able to meet the demands set by Napoli and the player.
