Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State, has passed away just days before his 90th birthday.

His death was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday morning in Ibadan by Mr. Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the Olunloyo family.

“With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement read.

Olunloyo, a renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, served briefly as governor of Oyo State between October 1 and December 31, 1983, under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

He held traditional titles including the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. He was also the pioneer rector of both the Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic.

His family described his contributions to the nation and humanity as a lasting source of pride. They appealed to the public and media for understanding and privacy as they begin arrangements for a befitting burial.
