Former South African police minister, Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa, found dead in Paris hotel
Former South African Police Minister and current Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has been found dead at a hotel in Paris.
According to reports, the 57-year-old diplomat was discovered at the foot of a Hyatt hotel after a fatal fall. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear.
Mthethwa, a long-time member of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), served as Minister of Police under former President Jacob Zuma from 2009 to 2014. He later held the position of Minister of Arts and Culture before being appointed as South Africa’s ambassador to France.
Tributes have begun pouring in from political figures and colleagues, who described him as a committed public servant and influential figure in South African politics.
French authorities, in collaboration with South Africa’s embassy in Paris, have launched investigations into the incident.
