By Hajara Usman
About 500 people in Cham community received free medical care from the Azumi Ladi Danat (ALDA) Foundation.
The medical outreach is part of the foundation’s ongoing charity work. It provided free medical check-ups and treatment for residents.
Mrs. Azumi Danat, founder of ALDA, said at the event that the foundation began in 2012, even though she has been helping people for over 15 years.
She explained that the foundation aims to improve health, restore dignity, and give hope to people in need.
Mrs Danat said ALDA has more than 80 staff members, including 35 consultant doctors.
She added that the foundation has carried out large medical programmes in several states.
Danat said through its eye care programme, ALDA has carried out over 1,000 eye surgeries in Imo State and treated almost 12,000 patients in different hospitals.
She also said the foundation is currently screening 10,500 pregnant women for hepatitis B to protect unborn children and reduce the spread of the disease.
Free screening, vaccines, and medicines are provided.
Mrs Danat noted that ALDA does not receive funding from outside donors.
According to her, the foundation is funded through her personal resources, with support from her husband, whom she thanked for his support.
She also mentioned some challenges, including a shortage of drugs, medical equipment, and support devices.
Despite these challenges, ALDA continues to give out items such as eyeglasses, walking frames, artificial limbs, and white canes for people with visual problems.
She said that in 2025, she conducted outreach in 10 locations across three states and the foundation plans to reach more communities in Gombe, Plateau, and other states.
Some beneficiaries, in separate interviews, praised ALDA for meeting their medical needs.
