France is unlikely to accept an invitation from the United States to join a proposed international Board of Peace aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, according to sources close to President Emmanuel Macron.

French officials told local broadcaster BFM TV on Monday that Paris “does not intend, at this stage, to give a favourable response” to the offer extended by US President Donald Trump.

A source familiar with the matter said the proposed charter raises broader concerns beyond Gaza, particularly regarding respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations. The source stressed that these principles “must under no circumstances be called into question.”

France’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed it is reviewing the provisions of the proposed framework, while reiterating its commitment to the UN Charter. In a statement seen by BFM TV, the ministry described the charter as “the cornerstone of effective multilateralism,” emphasising the importance of international law, the sovereign equality of states and the peaceful settlement of disputes over “arbitrariness, power politics and war.”

The White House announced on Friday the creation of the Board of Peace, which it said would play a key role in implementing 20 points of President Trump’s plan to permanently end Israel’s war on Gaza and rebuild the enclave. According to US officials, the board is expected to provide strategic oversight, mobilise international resources and ensure accountability as Gaza transitions from conflict to peace and development.

In addition, the United States said it has set up a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to oversee the second phase of Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict. The initiative is backed by a founding Executive Board and a Gaza Executive Board to support the committee’s work.
