A recent graduate of Babcock University, identified as Akawa Boluwatife Samuel, was found dead in his campus hostel on Wednesday, July 30, prompting an investigation by the Ogun State Police Command.

The 20-year-old, who had just completed his degree in Information Technology, was brought to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital by his roommates and was confirmed dead on arrival by attending medical personnel.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that preliminary findings indicate Boluwatife had earlier complained of cold and difficulty breathing on July 27. He was reportedly advised to visit the University Medical Centre but it remains unclear whether he did.

According to one of his roommates, Adili Leonard Chimdindu, the group had returned to campus to complete final clearance procedures ahead of graduation. Boluwatife had been in good spirits the night before his death and was seen playing games on his laptop until around 11:00 p.m.

Tragically, he was found unresponsive the following morning. Authorities have taken photographs of the scene and recorded statements from witnesses, including Boluwatife’s elder brother, Akawa Toluwanimi John.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the university morgue pending autopsy and further investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Police say inquiries are ongoing and have urged the public to avoid speculation while they await official findings.
