Fresh Fire Outbreak Guts Building in Lagos’ Mile 2 Area
A fresh fire outbreak on Saturday razed a building in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State, sparking panic among residents and workers nearby.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident via a statement on its official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the affected structure is located within the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate.
Although details about the building and the extent of damage were not immediately disclosed, the agency assured the public that firefighters were already on the scene and working to contain the blaze.
“Fire Alert! The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a fire outbreak at Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, Mile 2, Lagos,” the statement read.
“We assure the public that the situation is under control and there is no cause for panic.”
As of the time of filing this report, no casualties had been recorded, while the cause of the fire remained unknown. Authorities also did not confirm whether goods or properties were destroyed.
Residents and motorists were advised to avoid the area as emergency responders continued firefighting operations.
The latest incident adds to a series of fire outbreaks reported across Lagos in recent weeks. On December 24, 2025, a massive fire engulfed the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, claiming eight lives, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Preliminary findings linked that incident to human error, particularly unsafe generator use and refuelling practices, compounded by the storage of combustible materials in parts of the building converted into warehouses. Structural weaknesses also led to a partial collapse during the inferno.
Similarly, goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a multi-storey commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street in Computer Village, Ikeja, on January 20. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said the fire started around 1:55 a.m., prompting the activation of the state’s emergency response plan.
Another fire later razed a one-storey shopping complex housing clothing dealers at Amore Street, Ajegunle Boundary, with traders recording heavy losses.
The recurring incidents have continued to raise concerns about safety standards, emergency preparedness, and the need for stricter enforcement of fire prevention measures across Lagos State.
