Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has openly identified as a feminist but clarified that she does not support women disrespecting their husbands.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Akindele made the statement while speaking with the wife of popular skit maker Kamo State. She emphasized the need for mutual respect in marriage, urging men to treat women “specially” while also highlighting the importance of women’s economic empowerment.
“I’m a feminist, but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” she said.
She further stressed that women are not the weaker gender and should not be relegated to traditional roles.
“Men should treat women with respect. A woman is not just meant for the kitchen or to be spoken to anyhow. We women are strong and bold. Our economic power is important, and we must protect it so we can support our husbands,” she added.
