Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has earned a coveted spot on The Hollywood Reporter’s prestigious list of “Most Influential Women in International Film,” which celebrates 46 visionary women making global impact in the movie industry.

The announcement, made on Friday, May 9, marks a significant milestone in Akindele’s career, recognizing her outstanding contributions to Nollywood through blockbuster films like Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah, as well as her widely acclaimed television series Jenifa’s Diary.

Reacting to the honour on Instagram, Akindele expressed gratitude and saw the recognition as a motivation to continue pushing creative boundaries.

“I’m deeply honoured and truly grateful to be featured… To be recognised among 46 powerful, visionary women from around the world is more than a moment of celebration—it’s a call to keep building, creating boldly, and lifting others as we rise,” she wrote.

She also took a moment to celebrate fellow Nigerian honoree and media mogul Mo Abudu, praising her as a key figure in the growth of Africa’s creative industry.

“A heartfelt congratulations to Aunty Mo @moabudu… It’s an honor to be featured alongside someone who has been such a powerful source of inspiration,” she added.

Akindele’s latest recognition further cements her status as one of Nollywood’s most influential and bankable stars.
