Ghanaian teacher urges government to introduce “self-control allowance” for male teachers over attractive students

A Ghanaian teacher has sparked widespread outrage online after calling on the government to pay male teachers a “self-control allowance,” claiming that female students in Senior High Schools are becoming increasingly attractive.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the unidentified teacher appealed to the Minister of Education to consider introducing a special allowance for male educators who, according to him, struggle to maintain self-discipline around their students.

Speaking in the video, he said:

“The Minister of Education, I stand for my colleagues — we deserve a self-control allowance. Teachers are suffering. It’s not easy to control yourself for three years teaching these kids. Nowadays, the kind of food they eat and the body-hugging clothes they wear make them look attractive, but they are very young. It’s not easy for us.”

His comments have drawn mixed reactions across social media. While some users dismissed his statement as a joke, others condemned it as highly inappropriate and called for his arrest and disciplinary action.

Critics argued that the teacher’s remarks reflect a worrying attitude toward female students and urged education authorities to investigate the matter, emphasizing that teachers should serve as role models and protect minors from exploitation.

As of press time, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has not issued an official statement regarding the viral video.
