A convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has foiled a deadly ambush near Mayama Hill in Kebbi State, killing five suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovering a significant cache of weapons and logistics.
The incident occurred while the convoy was en route to visit frontline troops deployed in the state. The attackers reportedly opened fire from surrounding forested terrain, but troops responded swiftly and decisively, repelling the assault and disrupting the militants’ operation.
A follow-up clearance operation in the area led to the recovery of several dangerous items, including an OJC gun, a PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, a bandolier of PKT ammunition, multiple rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, five motorcycles, two mobile phones, and a camel bag containing ₦840,000 in cash.
Troops have since remained on high alert in the area, sustaining patrols and surveillance to prevent further terrorist activity and ensure the safety of communities.
Security sources described the operation as a strong deterrent to insurgent groups operating across the North West, reaffirming the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
