Google on Thursday disclosed that since 2022, its Hustle Academy had provided critical support to over 15,000 African Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) who had completed the bootcamp.

Kristy Grant, Head of B2B Marketing, Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, who made this known in a statement, announced the opening of applications for the 2025 edition of its Hustle Academy Programme.

Grant said that the launch of the 2025 Hustle Academy was an indication of Google’s continued commitment to empowering African entrepreneurs.

“The Academy is designed to empower SMBs across Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

“Google is reinforcing its focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered business training, enabling SMBs to leverage cutting edge technology for growth,” she said.

Grant noted that in spite of SMBs’ critical role in driving economic growth across the continent, they often faced significant hurdles.

According to her, limited access to funding, inadequate business resources and a lack of specialised skills hinder their ability to scale and thrive.

“Google’s Hustle Academy directly addresses these challenges by providing practical training, expert mentorship, and a robust entrepreneurial network, enabling SMBs to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential.

“The 2025 Programme will further equip entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to scale their businesses in today’s digital landscape,’’ she said.

Grant said that building on the successes of previous years, the programme would continue to emphasise AI-powered business training, alongside the launch.

According to her, Google is excited to bring back “Hustle Academy Brings You”, featuring inspiring stories from successful African business leaders and entrepreneurs.

She said that the free and virtual Hustle Academy 2025 bootcamp would also provide participants with in-depth training on AI integration and core business fundamentals.

Grant said that to be eligible, SMBs must have been operating for at least one year in Kenya, Nigeria or South Africa and must be seeking to expand their businesses.

She said that participants would benefit from expert mentorship, practical case studies and networking opportunities.

By combining practical training with inspiring stories, we aim to provide SMBs with the tools and motivation they need to succeed,” Grant said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Google’s mission is to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
