As part of ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity between rural communities and the state capital, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom on Thursday inaugurated the 10.4km Uyo–Ukpom Abak Road.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Eno said the completion of the road was in line with his campaign promise to finish uncompleted projects initiated by previous administrations.

“This project was initiated by the administration of my political father, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and we had promised to complete it. Today, we are here in fulfillment of that promise, because governance is a continuum,” Eno stated.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bridging the infrastructural gap between rural communities and the urban centre.

“It is our promise that we will keep connecting our rural communities to the centre, just as we keep connecting the centre of our state to the centre in Abuja,” he said.

The governor acknowledged the critical role played by the Federal Government in making the project a reality.

“This road project would not have been possible without the support of President Bola Tinubu, who made sure that funds are released to our state for completion of projects,” he noted.

Governor Eno also expressed the state’s unflinching support for the Tinubu administration, adding that Akwa Ibom would stand by the President in his bid for re-election in 2027.

He commended the efforts of Amitec Construction Company and the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, for delivering the project to standard.

In his welcome remarks, Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, thanked Governor Eno for keeping his word.

He noted that the road had remained in a deplorable condition for years, despite serving as a major diversion route during the construction of the Abak Road flyover.

“We are grateful that you have redeemed your campaign promise. This is indeed democracy in action,” Udo said.

Also speaking, the member representing Abak Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Clement Jimbo, lauded the governor for his foresight and vision in ensuring the road was completed for the benefit of the people.
