Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has paid glowing tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a beacon of peace, humility, and compassion whose legacy will continue to inspire generations around the world.

In a condolence message issued in Asaba on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the revered pontiff.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Pope Francis passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.

The governor said the Pope’s life was devoted to service, inclusiveness, and justice, noting that his influence extended far beyond the Catholic Church.

“The passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, is a monumental loss to the Catholic Church and humanity,” Oborevwori said.

“His teachings, humility, and relentless pursuit of peace and unity will remain a guiding light to many.”

He noted that Pope Francis was not only the spiritual head of over a billion Catholics but also a global figure who touched countless lives across religions and nations.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I extend heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community, the Vatican, and those who found hope and faith in the Pope’s leadership,” he added.

The governor urged Catholics in Nigeria and around the world to remain unwavering in their faith and honour the Pope’s legacy by upholding the values he championed.

“The world mourns a man who lived for others, who preached not just with words but by example. We celebrate a well-lived life and pray for his soul’s repose,” Oborevwori said.
