Gov. Oborevwori tasks corps members on teamwork, respect for culture

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has urged corps members deployed to the state to be disciplined, embrace teamwork and respect for cultural diversity, which the NYSC stood for.

Oborevwori said this on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.

Oborevwori, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr ThankGod Trakiriowei, urged the corps members to be matured in their respective tasks.

“As you embark on this one-year national service, I implore you to carry out your responsibilities with dedication and maturity.

“Remember that your deployment here is not by chance but a call to contribute to the development of this state and our beloved nation.

“Delta State offers immense opportunities for growth, collaboration and learning.

“I encourage you to seize this chance to leave a legacy of positive impact and take with you, a valuable lessons that will shape your future.

“I urge you to participate fully in the structured programmes and maintain the highest standards of conduct throughout your stay,” the governor said.

Mr Vandi Kwaghe, the State Coordinator, NYSC, said that today marked the beginning of a transformational journey for them to serve their great nation.

Kwaghe urged them to embrace every activity with enthusiasm and strive to distinguish themselves for honours and awards throughout the service year.

“Be disciplined, resourceful, and innovative, as these qualities will spur and set you apart and open doors to future opportunities.

“This orientation course is a foundational aspect of the service year, designed to instill discipline, foster unity, and prepare corps members for their roles in nation-building.

“You will undergo various activities, including leadership training, security awareness, drills, lectures, and skills acquisition under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

“These initiatives are carefully structured and designed to equip you for the challenges ahead and provide you with tools to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation,” he said.

According to him, a total of 1,464 prospective Corps members, comprising of 682 males and 782 females have been duly registered.

“Their conduct thus far has been commendable; characterized by peace, discipline, and enthusiasm for the activities lined up for the Orientation Course and entire service year.

“This positive attitude is a strong indication of their readiness to embrace the ideals of the scheme and their commitment to serving Nigeria with diligence,” he said.

He also commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of corps members and the development of the orientation camp.

“I humbly appeal for further intervention in the provision of utility vehicle for corps members inspection, an ambulance to support the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme of the NYSC and other emergency purposes.

“Also a 150 KVA generator, which was promised by the Governor, the camp perimeter fence to enhance the security of Corps members and to protect government huge investment in the camp.

“These items, when provided, will undoubtedly enhance the safety and productivity of Corps members during the service year,” he said.

He commended Mr Emmanuel Chinye, Chairman, Aniocha North Local Government, for the donation of 300 litres of diesel to assist the NYSC power its generator at the camp.

He said that the chairman’s collaboration had created an environment conducive for training and development, adding that the NYSC appreciate the commitment to the success of the scheme.
