Legendary Greek singer Marinella, 86, was rushed to intensive care on Wednesday after suffering a stroke while performing at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus, located beneath the Acropolis in Athens.
Videos captured by audience members showed the renowned folk singer collapsing mid-performance during a tribute concert at the ancient Roman-era theater.
A hospital statement released on Thursday confirmed that Marinella had suffered a “serious vascular stroke” and is currently receiving intensive care treatment.
Marinella, whose illustrious career has spanned over six decades, remains one of Greece’s most iconic musical figures. She represented Greece in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, the year it was famously won by ABBA with their hit “Waterloo.”
