Chiamaka Obi, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, has reportedly been abducted by gunmen along the Niger-Onitsha expressway in Niger State.
Obi, a native of Edenta, Okwu Etiti, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, was allegedly kidnapped on Monday while traveling from Kebbi State after completing her service year. She was taken alongside a family of four, the bus driver, and three other passengers.
Uche Agabige, a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, revealing that the kidnappers are demanding an “outrageous” ransom for Obi’s release. Agabige expressed deep concern for her safety and urged the Imo State Government to investigate the matter and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The kidnappers have demanded an outrageous ransom for her release,” Agabige said. “I call on the government to intervene and ensure the victim is freed without harm.”
He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to address the growing menace of kidnapping and banditry in the country.
Efforts to reach Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the state police command, were unsuccessful as his phone lines were unreachable at the time of this report.
