Gunmen Attack Military Base in Mali, Bamako Airport Shut Down
Mali has ordered the immediate closure of Bamako Airport following an armed attack on a military police base early Tuesday morning. The attack, marked by heavy gunfire and explosions, began around 5 a.m. near the airport, according to reports from local officials.
“Unidentified gunmen targeted a military police base in Bamako this morning,” an airport official and police source confirmed to AFP. As a result, authorities have temporarily shut down Bamako Airport for safety reasons.
Eyewitnesses, including worshippers trapped in a mosque during morning prayers, reported hearing the violent exchange. The French High School Liberte has also closed its doors due to the security threat, while staff at the United Nations Mission in Mali have been advised to restrict their movements until further notice.
