South African law enforcement agency The Hawks has recovered stolen funds linked to fraudulent schemes involving accounts at First National Bank, Bank of China, and multiple London financial institutions.
While one suspect has been apprehended, authorities confirmed that a second individual involved in the scheme remains at large, with investigations ongoing to track them down.
In a public advisory, The Hawks warned against unsolicited investment offers, urging individuals to exercise extreme caution in financial transactions, especially those promising unusually high returns.
“This case sends a clear message: South Africa will not be a haven for financial criminals. We have the capability and determination to track down and prosecute those who prey on unsuspecting victims, regardless of how sophisticated their schemes may be,” the agency stated.
