The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced plans to prosecute Ismail Usman, a herbalist who accidentally shot himself while testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm.
In a statement on Saturday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said Usman shot himself in the stomach on Nov. 23 at Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa, Abuja, while attempting to prove the charm’s efficacy.
The incident was reported to the police by a resident, Shandam Michael. Officers from the Byazhin division responded promptly and found the herbalist in critical condition. Usman was initially taken to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care and later referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Police investigations uncovered a homemade gun and various charms at Usman’s residence, which were reportedly used in the ill-fated experiment.
“The suspect will face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide,” Adeh stated.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, condemned the act, warning against reckless practices involving illegal weapons.
“This incident underscores the dangers of such risky behavior. We urge the public to refrain from these life-threatening activities,” Disu said.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and advised against the use of unverified charms or weapons.
