Hezbollah Launches 320 Rockets, Drones at Israeli Targets
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a large-scale attack on Israeli positions Sunday, firing over 320 Katyusha rockets and deploying drones in retaliation for the killing of a top commander. The attack targeted 11 Israeli military bases, including locations in the annexed Golan Heights.
In an earlier statement, Hezbollah confirmed the use of drones to strike deep inside Israel. The group described the offensive as an “initial response” to the death of Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander killed in an Israeli strike on southern Beirut.
Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have escalated since the Gaza war began on October 7, with both sides regularly exchanging fire. The situation grew more volatile following the deaths of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Shukr, for which Iran and Hezbollah vowed retaliation.
Hezbollah announced the “first phase” of its attack had been successfully completed, claiming it facilitated the deployment of drones into Israel. While the Israeli military has yet to confirm the strikes, Hezbollah warned of severe consequences if Lebanese civilians were harmed.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli forces responded with strikes across southern Lebanon. Cross-border clashes have claimed over 600 lives in Lebanon, including more than 130 civilians. On the Israeli side, 23 soldiers and 26 civilians have been killed, including in the Golan Heights.
