Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Bauchi Man Day Before Planned Trip Abroad for New Job
Tragedy struck in Bauchi State as 27-year-old Rotji Lazarus was killed by a hit-and-run driver just 24 hours before he was due to travel abroad for a new job opportunity.
Lazarus, a resident of the Gwalameji area, was reportedly knocked down late at night along the Bauchi–Dass road in Yelwa, near the POWA shops close to the Police Barracks. Eyewitnesses say the vehicle had no headlights and was speeding when it struck him. The driver immediately fled the scene, heading toward the Rafin Zurfi–Tafawa-Balewa Road.
Lazarus was a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, and held a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Leisure Management from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. Before his untimely death, he ran a fruit juice business near the spot where the incident occurred.
The Bauchi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Titus Saul Ketkukah, extended his condolences to Lazarus Buba, the victim’s father and a Special Adviser in the state government.
The commissioner described the late Lazarus as “a gentle, humble young man who was respectful and obedient to his parents and elders.”
The tragic incident has left the local community in mourning, with many expressing outrage over the reckless actions of the fleeing driver and calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
