Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, wife Michele found dead at Los Angeles home
US police are investigating the deaths of veteran Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, who were found dead at their Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
Emergency responders were called to the couple’s home in an upscale neighbourhood around 3:30 p.m. local time, with police launching an investigation that authorities described as a suspected homicide.
A source familiar with the case told NBC News that the couple were found inside the house with what appeared to be stab wounds. Officials have not publicly confirmed the cause of death.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesperson said in a statement. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this unimaginably difficult time.”
Police said no arrests have been made and added that they are not currently seeking any suspect or person of interest.
NBC News earlier reported that two people were found dead at a home owned by Reiner, citing multiple law enforcement sources. The victims were later identified as Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68. Authorities initially declined to release their identities or details surrounding the circumstances of their deaths.
Reiner rose to fame as an actor on the television sitcom All in the Family before achieving critical acclaim as a director. His films include The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men, the latter earning an Academy Award nomination for best picture.
He is also widely known for the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, which followed the fictional decline of a heavy metal band. A sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, was released in September.
