IAEA Calls for Restraint After Reported US-Israel Strike on Iran’s Natanz Nuclear Site

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has urged military restraint following reports of an attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel.

In a statement posted on X, the agency said it had been informed by Iranian authorities that the Natanz site was struck on Saturday, but confirmed that no increase in off-site radiation levels had been detected.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterated calls for caution, warning that escalating military actions could heighten the risk of a nuclear incident. He added that the agency is currently assessing the situation.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization of Iran earlier confirmed that the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility in Natanz was hit in what it described as “criminal attacks” by the US and Israel. Authorities said preliminary findings showed no radioactive leakage and assured that nearby residents were not in danger.

The Natanz facility has been repeatedly targeted in recent tensions. It was previously struck on March 2, and was among three nuclear-related sites — alongside Fordow and Isfahan — hit during US military operations in June last year.

The latest escalation follows a wave of hostilities that began on February 28, when US-Israeli strikes targeted Iranian positions. Tehran has since responded with a series of drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel and Gulf states hosting US military assets, raising concerns of a broader regional conflict.
