India national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav says his side is embracing the pressure as they prepare to face New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

India are chasing a historic milestone in Sunday’s final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where they could become the first team to defend the T20 World Cup title, win the tournament on home soil and claim a record third championship.

Speaking ahead of the match, Yadav said the team is ready to handle the expectations of more than 1.4 billion fans.

“There are nerves, butterflies in the stomach, but as I always say – if there’s no pressure, there’s no fun,” the Indian captain told reporters.

More than 100,000 spectators are expected to pack the world’s largest cricket stadium for the final, as India look to secure another global title in front of a home crowd.

The hosts will also attempt to become the first nation to win a T20 World Cup on home soil.

India reached the final after defeating England national cricket team in the semi-final, with key performances from players including Hardik Pandya.

Despite the high stakes, Yadav said the team has kept a relaxed atmosphere in the dressing room, crediting teammates such as Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah for maintaining a positive environment.

“It’s important to have characters around who can lighten the mood when the situation gets tight,” he said.

The captain added that fostering a supportive team culture and giving players freedom to express themselves has been key to India’s success throughout the tournament.

“A happy team atmosphere is the key,” Yadav said. “Everyone understands their role and what they need to do.”
