India has pledged support to Myanmar and Thailand following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the region on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s readiness to assist, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “India stands ready to offer all possible assistance,” adding that authorities were on standby.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicenter was about 16 kilometers from Sagaing in northwestern Myanmar. The tremors were felt across Bangladesh and India, including Manipur, which borders Myanmar.

Local reports indicated panic in Imphal’s western district, though no major damage was initially recorded. Tremors were also experienced in Kolkata and Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.
