Indiana Woman Arrested After Allegedly Traveling to D.C. to Threaten President Trump
A 50-year-old woman from Indiana has been arrested and charged with making violent threats against President Donald Trump after allegedly traveling to Washington, D.C., with the intent to carry out a plot to kidnap and assassinate him.
Nathalie Rose Jones was taken into custody on Saturday, August 16, following a series of alarming Facebook posts, including one in which she tagged the FBI and stated she was willing to “sacrificially kill” the President.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Jones wrote that she intended to disembowel Trump and “cut out his trachea,” naming former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and others as co-conspirators in her post.
Authorities say Jones initially traveled from Indiana to New York before making her way to the nation’s capital. Her social media activity, investigators noted, went beyond one post, with multiple threats against Trump, whom she referred to as a “terrorist” and blamed for deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jones is now facing multiple federal charges, including:
- Threatening to kill, kidnap, or inflict bodily harm on the President of the United States
- Transmitting threats across state lines
“This is one of the most serious offenses under federal law,” said D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in a statement. “Threatening the life of the President will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. We thank the Secret Service and all our law enforcement partners for their tireless commitment to protecting our national leaders.”
The case is being led by the U.S. Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter.
While threats against public officials are unfortunately not new, investigators say what sets this case apart is Jones’ apparent willingness to act on her threats by traveling to Washington with clear intent.
No further details about Jones’ mental state or potential defense have been released. A preliminary hearing is expected in the coming days.
