Indonesian Man Fined BND14k for Possessing Smuggled Cigarettes

Muhammad Tinwar, an Indonesian national, was fined BND14,000 on Monday after pleading guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes.

The Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Magistrate Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman, ordered Tinwar to pay the fine or face 13 months in jail if he fails to do so.

The case was brought forward by a Customs prosecutor who detailed that Tinwar was apprehended during a joint operation on August 10.

The operation, which involved the Religious Enforcement Agency, the Immigration and National Registration Department, and the Royal Customs and Excise Department, took place at a workers’ residence in Kampong Telanai around 9:30 p.m.

Authorities seized 15 cartons and 4 packets of various types of cigarettes during the raid, along with a mobile phone.
