Iran Blames U.S., Israel for Haniyeh’s Death

Iran is holding both the United States and Israel accountable for the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in an attack in Tehran, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

“The U.S. is also responsible for this brutal act of terrorism,” the ministry stated, accusing Washington of consistently supporting the Israeli government and endorsing its actions, thus playing a role in this incident.

The ministry reiterated that Iran had the legitimate right to respond appropriately to a crime committed on its own territory.

According to the Hamas militant Islamist organization, Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack on a residence in Tehran on Wednesday morning. Israel has yet to comment on the matter.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied Washington’s involvement in Haniyeh’s violent death, stating that the U.S. had no prior knowledge of the killing.
