Iran VP Declares Persian Gulf a Symbol of National Unity and Heritage
Iran’s First Vice President, Mohammad-Reza Aref, has reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to preserving the historical identity of the Persian Gulf, calling it a powerful symbol of unity among Iranians.
In a statement shared Thursday on his official Instagram page, Aref emphasized that the Persian Gulf is far more than a geographic label. He described it as deeply embedded in the fabric of Iran’s political, economic, cultural, and social history—an enduring element of national dignity and sovereignty.
Citing ancient documents, historical maps, and scholarly research, the vice president asserted that the Persian Gulf has been recognized for millennia as an inseparable part of Iran’s civilizational legacy.
“Iranians from all walks of life stand united in defending the name and identity of the Persian Gulf,” Aref said, urging the international community to acknowledge and respect historical and legal facts.
Echoing this stance, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi earlier condemned efforts to distort the name of the Persian Gulf, describing such attempts as politically motivated and hostile toward the Iranian nation.
