Israel Releases Video of Gaza Tunnel Where Six Hostages Were Found Dead
The Israeli military has released video footage of a tunnel in Gaza where the bodies of six hostages, killed by Hamas militants, were discovered. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari unveiled the footage during a press conference on September 11, 2024.
The tunnel, accessed through a hidden shaft beneath a residential home in Rafah, southern Gaza, was located 20 meters underground. The video reveals a cramped, poorly ventilated passage, devoid of basic amenities. Items found inside include a chessboard, hairbrush, USB chargers, a Kalashnikov rifle with ammunition, and flashlights. Bloodstains were visible on the ground.
Hagari confirmed that the hostages, two women and four men, were killed by Hamas a day before their bodies were recovered on August 31. “All evidence from the tunnel is being investigated as we work to identify the terrorists responsible,” Hagari stated, noting that other hostages remain in similar conditions.
The discovery has intensified public outrage in Israel, with protests calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure the release of the remaining 101 hostages still held by Hamas, following the October 7, 2023, attacks.
