The Israeli military on Friday, June 20, announced that it carried out a major overnight airstrike in Tehran, targeting facilities it claims are linked to Iran’s nuclear weapons development program. The operation marks the eighth straight day of direct hostilities between the two nations.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it struck “dozens of targets” in the heart of the Iranian capital, including missile production sites and the headquarters of the Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), which it accuses of leading Iran’s nuclear weapons research.

“The SPND facility is used for the research and development of advanced technologies and weapons that support the Iranian regime’s military capabilities,” the IDF said.

The military disclosed that over 60 fighter jets participated in the operation, hitting locations involved in the production of missile components and raw materials used for casting missile engines.

Additionally, Israeli forces reportedly intercepted four unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran. The IDF also confirmed the destruction of three missile launchers said to be “ready to launch” toward Israeli territory.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated sharply in recent weeks, raising concerns over a broader regional conflict.
