At least 11 people have been killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, local health officials said, as a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continues to deteriorate.

Among the dead were victims of a blast that struck a tent encampment sheltering displaced families, medics confirmed. Gaza health officials said at least four people were killed in that attack alone.

The Israeli military, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said the strikes were carried out in response to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas.

Despite the truce that has been in place since October, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry claims more than 570 Palestinians have been killed during the period, underscoring the growing instability of the ceasefire.

Further casualties were reported in the southern city of Khan Younis, where another airstrike reportedly killed five people. Additional strikes also targeted the Tel Al-Hawa neighbourhood in Gaza City, where Israeli forces were believed to be pursuing a commander of the Islamic Jihad, a militant group allied with Hamas.

The latest escalation comes just days before the first meeting of the controversial “Board of Peace” initiative announced by Donald Trump, adding further diplomatic tension to an already volatile situation in the region.
