1 3

Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering stronger trade relations with Nigeria, with its participation in the recent Lagos International Trade Fair highlighting this intent.

Speaking at the event’s closing ceremony, Tokashi Oku, Managing Director and Trade Commissioner for the Japanese External Trade Organisation, expressed Japan’s optimism for future collaboration, even as Nigeria grapples with economic challenges.

Oku acknowledged the lower-than-expected turnout due to the economic climate but remained optimistic. “While numbers were down, we still saw meaningful business discussions and agreements formed with Nigerian companies,” he noted. Oku also hinted at a promising 2025 trade fair and announced that Nigeria will participate in the upcoming Japan Expo in April, further solidifying trade engagement between the two nations.

Despite economic constraints, Japanese companies reported productive exchanges, laying a foundation for a stronger trade relationship.
