Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended his Commissioner of Special Duties, Mr. Auwal Sankara, following allegations of an illicit affair with a married woman in Kano.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by the Jigawa State Head of Service, Mr. Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse on Saturday.
Ibrahim stated that the suspension was approved to allow for a thorough investigation into the allegation and to maintain the integrity of the state government.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and we are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the statement read.
The incident reportedly involved Sankara being arrested by Hisbah officials in an unfinished building in Kano on Thursday, following a complaint from the woman’s husband to the Department of State Security.
Media reports confirmed the arrest, with the Director-General of Kano Hisbah Commission, Malam Abba Sufi, stating that Sankara would be arraigned in court on Monday.
Gov. Namadi’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and ethical governance, emphasizing that no official is above scrutiny.
