A 24-year-old student, David Odiwe, was sentenced by a Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for trespassing and stealing from a woman’s home.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, who presided over the case, handed down the sentence after Odiwe pleaded guilty to the charges. He was given the option of a N50,000 fine or six months in prison. Additionally, Odiwe was ordered to pay N300,000 in compensation to the victim or face an extra 18 months in prison if he defaults.
Prosecutor Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat informed the court that the complainant, Aisha Salish, reported the incident on Sept. 19 at the “B” Division police station. The convict had stolen several items, including a tablet worth N155,000, shoes valued at N80,000, a phone worth N80,000, and a wristwatch valued at N20,000.
During the investigation, the wristwatch was recovered from Odiwe. His actions were found to be in violation of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
